Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place on stable, level surface away from strong electromagnetic interference.

  1. Connect Antenna: Extend telescopic whip for FM/SW. For AM/LW, rotate unit for best reception with internal ferrite. For external SW antenna, connect longwire to EXT ANT terminal.
  2. Power Connection: Plug AC adapter into AC IN jack and wall outlet. For battery operation, install 6 D cells (not included) observing correct polarity.
  3. Headphones/Speakers: Connect to PHONES/LINE OUT jack for private listening or external amplification.
  4. Turn Power ON: Set POWER switch to ON position.

WARNING! Do not place near heat sources or in direct sunlight. Use correct voltage AC adapter only.

First-Time Setup

Power on radio; set initial preferences.

  1. Set Time: Press CLOCK button, use number keys or tuning knob to set current time, press ENTER.
  2. Select Band: Press BAND button repeatedly to cycle through LW, AM, SW, FM.
  3. Initial Tuning: Use TUNING knob or direct frequency entry to find a station.
  4. Adjust Volume/Squelch: Set volume with VOLUME knob. For SSB, adjust SQUELCH to mute noise between signals.
  5. Set Display Contrast: Hold DISPLAY button and adjust with tuning knob if needed.

CAUTION! When using external antenna during thunderstorms, disconnect for safety.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Front Panel: POWER, VOLUME, TUNING knob, BAND, MODE (AM/USB/LSB), SQUELCH, CLOCK, MEMORY, SCAN, buttons 0-9, ENTER, DISPLAY.

Key Functions: BAND selects reception band. MODE sets demodulation. MEMORY stores/recalls presets. SCAN starts automatic station search. SQUELCH mutes background noise (SSB/FM).

Menu Settings (accessed via FUNCTION button): Time set, Alarm set, Sleep timer (1-90 min), Display contrast, Beep on/off, Memory clear, SSB fine-tuning step (10/20/50 Hz).

Connecting Antennas and Accessories

Optimal antenna connection is critical for performance, especially on SW.

  1. Internal Antennas: Use telescopic whip fully extended for FM/SW. Rotate radio for AM/LW.
  2. External Longwire Antenna (SW): Connect wire to EXT ANT terminal. Ground terminal should be connected to a proper earth ground for best results and safety.
  3. Headphones/External Speaker: Plug into PHONES/LINE OUT jack. Internal speaker mutes when plugged in.
  4. Recording: Connect LINE OUT to recorder input.

Tip: Keep antenna away from power lines and electronic devices to reduce noise.

Operating Modes and Tuning

Supports multiple tuning methods for precise reception.

  1. Manual Tuning: Rotate TUNING knob. Step size varies by band (FM: 50/100 kHz, AM: 1/9/10 kHz, SW: 1/5/9/10 kHz).
  2. Direct Frequency Entry: Press digits (e.g., 1, 4, 2, 0, 0 for 14200 kHz), press ENTER.
  3. Automatic Scan: Press and hold SCAN. Radio scans upward in frequency and stops at a station with sufficient signal. Press SCAN again to continue.
  4. SSB Tuning: Select USB or LSB mode. Use TUNING knob for coarse tuning. For fine tuning, use the SSB FINE-TUNE function in the menu.
  5. Synchronous Detection: Activates automatically on strong AM/SW signals to reduce distortion and fading.

WARNING! Do not use excessive force on tuning knob or telescopic antenna.

Memory and Scanning Functions

Store up to 1000 frequencies with alphanumeric tags.

  1. Storing a Memory: Tune to desired frequency. Press MEMORY. Select memory page (0-9) using number keys. Select memory location (00-99) using number keys. Press ENTER. Optionally, enter a name using the number keys (letters assigned to keys).
  2. Recalling a Memory: Press MEMORY, enter page number, enter location number, press ENTER.
  3. Memory Scan: Press and hold SCAN while in memory mode to scan through all stored stations in the current page.
  4. Alarm with Radio: Set alarm time in CLOCK menu. Select "RADIO" as source. Alarm will turn radio on at set time to last listened station or a specific memory.

Care & Cleaning

Unplug AC adapter and remove batteries before cleaning. Use soft, dry cloth for cabinet and display. For stubborn marks, dampen cloth slightly with water only.

CAUTION! Never use solvents, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners. Keep liquids away from controls and vents.
